PURCHASING MANAGER

Position Overview:

The Purchasing Manager reports to the Vice President of Product Management and is responsible for all Purchasing activities and supervision of the Purchasing team.  The major objectives of the position are optimizing total cost for purchasing, ensuring on time delivery of material to the shop floor, and reduction in lead times.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides team leadership and direct supervision of purchasing department personnel.
  • Works directly with the Engineering, Project Management and Manufacturing to determine priorities and delivery scheduling for the procurement phase of a project.
  • Develops and controls standardization of process and procedures related to material pricing, coordination, procurement, and on-time delivery to customers.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain Key Performance Indices (KPI) for measuring vendor performance.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain supplier databases to ensure we are continually getting the lowest cost with the best quality. This also includes qualifying new suppliers as required.
  • Work with the Application Engineering department to provide quotations for components during bidding stage.
  • Forecast and implement short and long-term resources necessary to support sales and operations.
  • Responsible for new component research, sourcing, and expansion/diversification of company vendor base
  • Monitor and develop existing supply chain.
  • Negotiate and manage supplier contracts as needed or support the Sales and Project Management group to manage purchase orders after contract signing.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by TAS.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Initiating Action – Taking prompt action to accomplish objectives; taking action to achieve goals being proactive; generating innovative solutions in work situations.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with ERP/MRP systems is a must.
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the business
  • PC proficiency – knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word, and Outlook.
  • Communication – ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.
  • Building Strategic Working Relationships – Developing and using collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals without formal authority.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Extensive relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years of prior Purchasing/Procurement experience in a manufacturing environment

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior experience managing a Purchasing department of 2+ employees in an engineer-to-order/make-to-order environment.
  • Experience working in an ISO certified environment.
  • APICS/CPM/CPSM certification
