Plumbing and Pipefitting Instructor
Job Summary:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Plumbing and Pipefitting Instructor to train, mentor, and guide apprenticeship participants. You will play a vital role in developing industry-leading talent by delivering structured and practical training, both in classroom settings and real-world construction environments. This role emphasizes safety, technical skill, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Curriculum: Create and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and assessments to align with current industry standards and safety regulations.
- Deliver Training: Teach plumbing and pipefitting techniques, including pipe system design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Hands-On Training: Guide participants through practical exercises, ensuring mastery of tools, materials, and industry procedures.
- Safety Education: Emphasize safe work practices, hazard identification, and adherence to OSHA and other safety standards.
- Evaluate Performance: Assess trainees through written tests, practical demonstrations, and performance reviews, providing constructive feedback.
- Mentoring: Provide one-on-one or group support, addressing individual learning needs and fostering professional growth.
- Stay Current: Keep updated with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes to ensure the curriculum remains relevant.
- Compliance: Ensure all training programs meet the company and industry’s quality and safety standards.
- Maintain Records: Accurately document and maintain training records.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years as a plumber and/or pipefitter in the construction industry at the journeyman level.
- Plumbing and/or Pipefitting certification (state/jurisdiction license or formal apprenticeship program completion).
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or vocational training preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
- Prior experience as a technical instructor or trainer is highly desirable. NCCER certification is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of plumbing and pipefitting techniques, materials, tools, codes, and standards (e.g., IPC, UPC, OSHA).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
- Familiarity with industry software (e.g., CAD for piping systems) is a plus.
- Ability to lead and mentor diverse groups of trainees in both classroom and hands-on settings.
- Able to stand for extended periods, lift 50 lbs., and work in indoor and outdoor conditions.
