PE Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Process Piping (Lead Engineer) • Ames, IA
140–160 K base + up to 20% bonus • Paid relocation + amazing benefits
Ready to turn pipe dreams into reality? We’re a growing mechanical construction firm in Ames, Iowa, on the lookout for a licensed PE who lives and breathes HVAC and process‐piping design. You’ll step in as our Engineering Department lead—owning design strategy, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring every system we build hums like a finely tuned engine.
What You’ll Own

Design Leadership: Architect HVAC and process‐piping systems for industrial, commercial, and institutional projects—your blueprints drive success.

Dept. Strategy: Set engineering standards, streamline workflows, and champion best practices across the team.

Project Oversight: Lead multi‐disciplinary teams through all phases—from calculations and 3D modeling to shop drawings and field support.

Mentorship & Growth: Coach junior engineers and drafters, foster professional development, and help shape the next generation of PEs.

Collaboration & Client Focus: Work hand‐in‐hand with PMs, BIM coordinators, and clients to deliver on time, on budget, and beyond expectations.
What You Bring
-
Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. state (or reciprocity underway)
-
5+ years of hands-on HVAC and/or process‐piping design in a mechanical construction or consulting environment
-
Expertise with industry tools (AutoCAD MEP/Revit, CAESAR II, HAP, or similar)

Proven track record leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects

Excellent communication, leadership, and client‐management skills

A proactive, continuous‐improvement mindset—always asking “How can we make this better?”
