Pipe Estimator – Mechanical Construction

We are seeking a Pipe Estimator with a strong background in mechanical construction estimating to join our client’s  growing team. In this role, you will prepare and coordinate full estimates for large, complex piping projects, providing complete conceptual and total bid pricing in alignment with client documents and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate RFQs, RFPs, and bid documents for piping projects.
  • Develop RFIs to address inconsistencies and missing information in contract documents.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of estimates for mechanical and piping scopes.
  • Review estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Develop clarifications and exclusions pertinent to bids.
  • Execute QuickPen or similar take-offs from construction documents for labor and materials.
  • Obtain material pricing and subcontractor bids, verifying scopes.
  • Prepare cost analysis using estimating software, recapping material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and direct installation costs.
  • Create estimates where predetermined standards are not available.
  • Inform supervisors of any inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or database entries.
  • Maintain and update labor and materials databases.
  • Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and government requirements.
  • Attend departmental meetings as required.
  • Print and manage plans and documents for estimating workflows.
  • Develop strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Assist in preparing project turnover manuals. 

Skills and Requirements:

  • 8–10 years of related experience in mechanical, piping, or plumbing estimating or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to read and interpret bid front ends, scopes of work, blueprints, safety programs, and QA/QC manuals.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to speak before clients and internal teams.
  • Experience with Quick Pen, Trimble, or similar estimating software strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in estimating techniques, detailed labor and material take-offs, and cost control.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Accurate and competitive bid quotations and thorough estimates.
