Position Overview:
The Product Manager will oversee all aspects of data center infrastructure projects, ensuring seamless execution from inception to completion. This role involves managing project timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communication while proactively identifying and resolving issues that impact project performance. The Product Manager serves as the primary customer advocate, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing solutions and pricing for new business opportunities.
- Provide strategic guidance in refining project scope and pre-award budgets.
- Collaborate with customers to define project requirements and responsibilities.
- Negotiate contract terms and conditions to align with business objectives.
- Assume full customer interface responsibility for engineering, delivery, and manufacturing.
- Ensure clear definitions of project scope, schedule, and budget control pre-award.
- Serve as the main point of contact for all project communication with customers.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in collaboration with the Master Scheduler.
- Track project progress using earned value management techniques.
- Coordinate with suppliers on scope, commercial, and scheduling matters.
- Lead internal teams, including Materials Management, Document Control, QA/QC, Fabrication, and Engineering.
- Prepare key project documents, such as Master Document Lists and project requirements.
- Conduct periodic budget reviews and maintain accurate cost estimates.
- Work with Project Engineers on equipment selection and production oversight.
- Address inquiries from customers, EPC contractors, and subcontractors.
- Ensure project deliverables are submitted per contract requirements.
- Manage project cash flow and mitigate scope creep with change order requests.
- Coordinate with the Service Department for commissioning, startup, and training.
- Expedite project closeout and facilitate retainage release.
- Organize a warranty handoff meeting with the Aftermarket Department.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong business management and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to develop solutions for technical and commercial challenges independently.
- Expertise in data center project management, including scope development, risk management, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination.
- Cross-functional knowledge of HVAC systems, structural and mechanical design, electrical power distribution, and controls architecture.
- Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, and database management.
- Familiarity with ANSI, ASME, API, and OSHA standards.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional certifications (P.E., PMP) are a plus.
Minimum Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience managing data center projects.
- 5+ years of experience in internet technology companies (preferred).
- 10+ years of construction and project management experience, preferably in a packaged equipment environment.
- Experience with industrial HVAC, ESCO, or central refrigeration plant projects.
- Familiarity with gas turbine power generation, cost estimation, construction management, and insurance/bonding requirements.
